We held the second annual TRPIL Capital Campaign Walk * Run * Roll on Saturday, April 29th, 2017. Just like last year, the event helped us raise funds for the renovation of the former YWCA building—and just like last year, we all had a blast!

This year, we held the event at South Strabane Community Park. As the first organizers got there it was raining rather heavily – a frightening start to a day out in the open! – but soon enough the weather relented and let us set up and have our fun. Participants started arriving at 8 to sign up, and began running at 9. We had a significant amount of help from Delta Gamma as well as our own workers! Like last year, we gave out event t-shirts with the logos of our many sponsors.

Walkers, runners, manual rollers, and power rollers all tackled the 5K. Several volunteers helped navigate the participants, as well as keep track of the number of laps left. Our water station was also well stocked and provided fluid to all who needed it. Meanwhile, our auction and 50-50 raffles went along swimmingly! Dozens of prizes were awarded.

Obstacles & Opportunities

Like last year, everyone involved did their best to ensure that the Walk, Run, Roll was available and accessible to all who wanted to run it. The only major problem (other than the weather being belligerent!) was with the accessible bathroom provided. This portable bathroom was rather small, and was unable to fit many of the wheelchairs used by the participants and volunteers.

We are working towards fixing this issue in future engagements, and hoping for a more accessible park for next year’s event!

This second Walk * Run * Roll was a great success, raising over $10,000 for the TRPIL Capital Campaign! Thank you to all who donated!
