Independent Living Specialist – Now Hiring

At TRPIL, we are improving lives every day! Our Independent Living Department helps support our mission of empowering people with disabilities and promoting independent living. The Independent Living Specialist’s main responsibilities are to equip and empower people with disabilities by providing living well services, peer support and skills training while furthering and implementing the ideals of the IL philosophy.

This position also carries out other duties assigned by the Independent Living Supervisors such as:
-Recording and documenting intake assessments, direct services, systems advocacy activities and information and referrals
-Maintain familiarity with services available to consumers, including eligibility requirements and appeal procedures
-Provide individual peer support to people with disabilities
-Develop and conduct skills training classes
-Perform outreach/advocacy activities to inform the general public of the civil liberties of people with disabilities
-Promoting the Living Well With A Disability initiative and community awareness of the Independent Living philosophy

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-BA in the Human Services field (personal experience with a disability or related experience may be substituted for education)
-Excellent organizational skills
-Good oral and written communication skills
-Ability to meet deadlines and provide quality work under pressure
-Preferred Qualifications
-Personal experience with a disability
-Reliable personal transportation
-Knowledge of and commitment to the independent living philosophy

Schedule: 8-hour day shift, Monday through Friday
